Basic Feather is a badminton brand founded by Flemming Quach and former professional player Morten Frost. The brand is rooted in a deep respect for the sport itself, and guided with a simple, clean, and quality-driven mindset. The ambition is to create beautifully considered sportswear and equipment that never overpower the players own style, but instead act as a canvas supporting individual style and personal progression within the game. At Baseborn, we partnered with Basic Feather to define their brand positioning and develop the brand identity and packaging design.
When Flemming Quach first approached Baseborn with his vision for Basic Feather, it was clear that the brand needed to move in a different direction than the category norm. Rather than competing in the loud, over-designed visual universe that dominates much of badminton, we positioned Basic Feather as a brand rooted closer to the sport itself trusting simplicity, clarity, and restraint, with a subtle fashion sensibility. At its core was a belief that badminton doesn’t need to shout. But instead making the sport carries its own confidence. From this insight, we defined the brand position “A canvas for your journey” a quietly confident, fashion-led badminton brand that creates space for the player to shine, without dictating identity or style. Visually, the identity draws from a clean Scandinavian design approach, paired with a light touch of technical precision to reflect the high quality of the products. The design and layout is built on a grid system inspired by the badminton court itself, abstracted to capture its iconic structure in a way that feels minimal yet badminton. The color palette is derived directly from the product line, using tone-on-tone to maintain a calm, clean expression to keep the idea of Basic Feather as a simple, refined canvas.
